Chief of Integrated Defence Staff (CISC) Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit recently met with Kazakhstan’s Deputy Minister of Defence, Major General Zhazykbayev Shaikh-Khassan in New Delhi. The discussions centered on strengthening defense cooperation and exploring new avenues for engagement in niche domains like C-UAS and training exchanges. Both sides reiterated their commitment to expanding their partnership through continued and focused engagements.
During a separate meeting, Major General Zhazykbayev Shaikh-Khassan engaged with Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Upendra Dwivedi to enhance military exchanges and deepen engagement between the armies of India and Kazakhstan. The interaction emphasized strengthening bilateral defense cooperation and mutual understanding, with a focus on professional collaboration.
Major General Zhazykbayev Shaikh-Khassan also paid tribute to the Bravehearts of the Indian Armed Forces at the National War Memorial. The longstanding relations between India and Kazakhstan, spanning over 2000 years, highlight the historical ties between the two nations. Defense cooperation plays a crucial role in the strategic partnership between India and Kazakhstan, with diplomatic ties established in 1992.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the Indo-Kazakh Defense Cooperation operates under a 2015 agreement on ‘Defense and Military Technical Cooperation.’ This collaboration includes military-technical cooperation, military education and training, joint exercises, bilateral visits, joint sports and adventure activities, and a Youth Exchange Program (YEP) between the National Cadet Corps (NCC) and the Voenni Kafedra in Kazakhstan.
