Akshay Sharma secured his third PGTI title by carding a flawless eight-under 64 at the Players Championship held at the Classic Golf & Country Club in Nuh, Haryana. The 35-year-old golfer from Chandigarh finished at 19-under 269, claiming victory by a narrow one-shot margin.
Overnight leader Dhruv Sheoran from Gurugram ended as the runner-up at 18-under 270 after starting the final round with a three-shot lead. Sharma, who started the day four shots behind, surged into contention with a remarkable round featuring eight birdies.
Sharma’s strong performance saw him take the lead by the back nine and secure the win with consecutive birdies on the final two holes. Despite Sheoran’s late efforts with an eagle and a birdie, he fell short by one shot, settling for second place.
Reflecting on his victory, Sharma expressed his satisfaction with his consistent finishes and emphasized the importance of patience and precision in his game. He also credited his support system and mentioned Jeev Milkha Singh as a significant inspiration during his crucial putts.
Jamal Hossain finished third at 14-under 274, while Mani Ram secured fourth place at 13-under 275. PGTI Order of Merit leader Saptak Talwar finished tied for 13th position, further solidifying his lead in the merit list.
