A major conspiracy to derail the Maharaja Express, a luxurious tourist train in India, was recently foiled near Jaipur thanks to the quick thinking of the loco pilot. The incident occurred as the train, carrying numerous foreign tourists, was traveling from Jaipur to Sawai Madhopur.
Around 11.30 p.m. on Tuesday, the loco pilot spotted iron angles placed on the railway track near a railway crossing close to Mahatma Gandhi Hospital in the Shivdaspura area. Acting promptly, he applied emergency brakes, bringing the train to a stop and averting a potential disaster.
Railway sources revealed that five to six iron angles, each about five feet long, were strategically positioned on the track with the aim of derailing the train. The train was delayed for approximately 35 minutes while the obstruction was cleared.
Following the incident, authorities including the Railway Protection Force (RPF), Government Railway Police (GRP), and local police swiftly responded to the scene. A thorough inspection of the track was conducted with the assistance of a dog squad before train operations resumed.
The RPF has initiated a case against unidentified individuals and commenced an investigation. Railway officials have also directed the reinforcement of track patrolling and security measures in vulnerable areas to prevent similar incidents.
The alertness and rapid response of the loco pilot ensured the safety of the passengers aboard the Maharaja Express, preventing a potential catastrophe. This incident is not an isolated one, as similar attempts to derail trains have been reported in the past, highlighting the importance of heightened vigilance and security measures in the railway sector.
