Union Home Minister Amit Shah took part in a yoga session at Prahlad Nagar Garden in Ahmedabad on Sunday to mark the 12th International Yoga Day. Shah participated in a mass yoga program with citizens and yoga enthusiasts in the city, contributing to the various events held across Gujarat and the country for the annual occasion. He emphasized the significance of yoga, calling it India’s precious contribution to overall well-being by rejuvenating the mind, body, and soul.
The participation of the Union Home Minister coincided with numerous individuals engaging in yoga sessions at public locations, educational institutions, parks, and community areas throughout India. This year’s International Day of Yoga is themed “Yoga for Healthy Ageing,” underscoring yoga’s role in enhancing physical fitness, mental health, and healthy living at all stages of life. In Gujarat, extensive programs were conducted at specific venues in both urban and rural settings, attracting participants from various age demographics.
Ahmedabad was a hub for several yoga events, with Prahlad Nagar Garden being a prominent location in the city. Participants gathered early in the morning to practice diverse yoga asanas and breathing exercises as part of the synchronized observance. The celebrations coincided with a state-level International Yoga Day event in Mansa of Gandhinagar district, attended by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi commenced the national observance from Kolkata and delivered an address to the nation on this significant day. Since 2015, the International Day of Yoga has been commemorated annually following a United Nations resolution proposed by India to raise awareness about yoga as a comprehensive approach to health and well-being. This year’s observance in Gujarat witnessed extensive participation, with governmental bodies, local authorities, and community groups collaborating on programs at numerous locations across the state.
