Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, and other ministers in the state have decided to decrease the number of vehicles in their convoys following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for fuel conservation amid the West Asia conflict. State IT and HRD Minister Nara Lokesh, son of Chief Minister Naidu, has instructed his security team to reduce his convoy size by 50%, resulting in only two vehicles accompanying him. Chief Minister Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan have also directed officials to cut down convoy vehicles during district tours by 50% to reduce fuel consumption.
In response to the Prime Minister’s appeal for austerity measures due to the crisis in West Asia, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan and Union Minister of State for Communications Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar have decided to reduce the number of protocol officials and vehicles during their official visits. Chief Minister Naidu emphasized the need to curb wasteful expenditure and set an example by reducing convoy sizes, stating that security arrangements should be sensible and purposeful. Several state ministers have followed suit by reducing the number of vehicles in their convoys.
The Cabinet meeting in Andhra Pradesh is set to discuss further austerity measures aligned with the Prime Minister’s call, focusing on the state action plan for resources conservation and self-reliance. The plan includes initiatives for fuel conservation, public transport, energy efficiency, domestic tourism, natural farming, Swadeshi promotion, and behavioral change interventions.
