Records of Waqf properties in Andhra Pradesh, currently held by the Waqf Board in Telangana, are finally being transferred to Andhra Pradesh after a long delay. The issue, pending for over ten years, has seen progress following the involvement of Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu and Minister for Minority Welfare N.M.D. Farooq. The transfer includes key documents such as files, survey forms, and district-wise gazettes essential for the Andhra Pradesh Waqf Board.
The Waqf Act of 1995 and guidelines post the 2014 bifurcation mandated the transfer of all records, assets, and funds from Telangana to Andhra Pradesh. Abdul Aziz, the Andhra Pradesh Waqf Board Chairman, has made this transfer a top priority since assuming office. He has actively engaged with Telangana officials and received support from Chief Minister Naidu and Minister Farooq in expediting the process.
Due to continuous efforts and intervention from the concerned authorities, the Telangana government has issued orders to release the records room to the Andhra Pradesh Waqf Board. This includes nearly 2,971 files, survey reports, and gazettes. The Andhra Pradesh Waqf Board is preparing to take custody of these records to safeguard Waqf properties and manage legal matters effectively.
Efforts are underway to not only recover the records but also outstanding financial assets amounting to Rs 55.5 crore owed to the Andhra Pradesh Waqf Board. The process involves identifying, inventorying, and securing these crucial documents for the efficient management and protection of Waqf properties in the region.
