Angkrish Raghuvanshi has been fined 20% of his match fee and received one demerit point for violating the IPL Code of Conduct during Kolkata Knight Riders’ recent match against Lucknow Super Giants. The incident occurred at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, where Raghuvanshi’s on-field dismissal led to a visible show of dissent. The IPL stated that Raghuvanshi breached Level 1 of the Code of Conduct for Players and Team Officials by displaying dissent after being given out for obstructing the field.
Raghuvanshi was penalized for breaching Article 2.2 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which pertains to the abuse of cricket equipment or clothing during a match. The incident occurred in the 5th over when, following his dismissal for obstructing the field, Raghuvanshi aggressively struck the boundary cushion with his bat and threw his helmet into the dugout. He accepted the Match Referee’s sanction for his actions. The rare dismissal happened on the final delivery of the fifth over of KKR’s innings, where Raghuvanshi was given out for obstructing the field.
The dismissal occurred when Raghuvanshi, batting on nine off seven balls, changed his running line while attempting to return to the crease and was hit by a direct throw. The LSG players appealed for obstruction of the field, leading to a review by the third umpire, who ruled in favor of the dismissal. Raghuvanshi’s reaction to the decision included arguing with the umpires, hitting the boundary cushion with his bat, and throwing his helmet in frustration. This incident also sparked heated discussions within the KKR camp.
Raghuvanshi’s dismissal for obstructing the field placed him in a select group of IPL players who have faced a similar fate, including Yusuf Pathan (2013), Amit Mishra (2019), and Ravindra Jadeja (2024).
