As the Assam Assembly elections approach, hopefuls from the Indian National Congress and their supporters congregated at Rajiv Bhavan, the party’s state headquarters in Guwahati, to submit applications for party tickets. The event saw a strong turnout of leaders and workers from across the state, showcasing early party mobilization for the upcoming polls.
Numerous candidates lined up to file their nomination papers, displaying confidence in their chances of securing party tickets. One such applicant was Jonson J. Sangma, a newcomer from the Garo community, vying for the 28 No. Boko–Chaygaon (ST) Assembly constituency.
Sangma, currently serving as Vice-Chairman of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee Minority Department, has a longstanding association with the Congress dating back to 2001. His candidacy holds significance as he prepares to directly challenge the Bharatiya Janata Party in a constituency known for its diverse tribal and non-tribal populace.
