Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma emphasized the government’s vigilance on market prices to prevent unfair hikes in essential commodity costs. Sarma instructed officials in all districts to take strict actions against any price violators. The state’s price monitoring mechanism for essential goods was reviewed by the Chief Minister, who urged intensified surveillance and enforcement measures across Assam.
Sarma directed Deputy Commissioner-led District Monitoring Committees to evaluate market conditions promptly and ensure adherence to government guidelines. He mandated the display of retail and wholesale prices at all shops to enhance transparency and deter arbitrary pricing strategies. Additionally, Sarma warned of severe consequences, such as license cancellations, for traders engaging in unjustified price increases.
The government instructed Deputy Commissioners to conduct regular meetings with trade bodies to analyze market trends and address pricing concerns. Field-level monitoring was also urged to prevent abnormal price surges in local markets. Sarma highlighted the need for Aadhaar seeding under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana to streamline LPG cylinder distribution and benefit genuine consumers. These measures aim to stabilize markets, curb profiteering, and ensure continuous access to essential goods for the public.
