Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma praised the Indian Air Force (IAF) for its successful landing and take-off exercise at the Emergency Landing Facility (ELF) on the Moran highway. He highlighted the strategic importance of this exercise in bolstering the country’s defense preparedness, attributing it to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision. Sarma emphasized the enhanced defense readiness achieved through critical infrastructure development nationwide, with Assam’s contribution being significant through the Moran ELF.
The Emergency Landing Facility at Moran, situated on a national highway in Upper Assam, is specifically designed to support the landing and take-off of fighter jets and transport aircraft during emergencies. This infrastructure plays a crucial role in scenarios such as natural disasters or when conventional airbases are inaccessible. Officials noted that the Moran ELF significantly boosts operational flexibility for the IAF, particularly in the strategically sensitive northeastern region.
The exercise conducted at the ELF has garnered widespread public interest, with the operation’s visuals being widely circulated. It has been viewed as a testament to India’s expanding dual-use infrastructure capabilities. The current administration has focused on developing highways, especially in border and strategic areas, to support defense operations. Assam, given its international borders and strategic location in the Northeast, has witnessed rapid infrastructure growth in recent times.
Chief Minister Sarma underscored that the state’s highways now not only serve connectivity and development purposes but also align with national security objectives.
