Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has voiced worry about the recent violence against Hindus in Bangladesh. He emphasized that the Indian government supports the minority Hindu community in the neighboring country. Sarma, speaking at an event in a district bordering Bangladesh, highlighted the need to protect minority groups from such attacks.
The Chief Minister noted that the unrest in Bangladesh is affecting Assam as well, prompting increased security measures along the international border. He also stated that the Assam government plans to urge the Union government to ensure the safety of Hindus in Bangladesh. Sarma condemned the recent incidents of violence against the Hindu community.
Sarma stressed the importance of monitoring the situation closely to prevent any adverse effects on Assam. He highlighted the escalating violence and insecurity faced by minority communities in Bangladesh. The Chief Minister underscored the need for heightened vigilance and support for the Hindu society in Bangladesh.
According to the 2022 census data, Bangladesh is home to approximately 13.13 million Hindus, constituting around eight percent of the country’s population. Sarma’s remarks reflect the growing concerns in the region regarding the safety of minority communities in Bangladesh.
