Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) report investigating Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi’s alleged connections to Pakistan will be made public on February 8 at 10:30 am. The decision was made during a state Cabinet meeting, emphasizing the government’s commitment to transparency in this matter.
Sarma stated that the report on Gaurav Gogoi’s Pakistan links will be accessible to the public as scheduled. Recently, the Chief Minister has been vocal about allegations linking Gogoi to Pakistan, sparking a political clash between the BJP and Congress in Assam.
Alleging that Gogoi’s actions and statements raise significant concerns necessitating public scrutiny, Sarma emphasized the government’s openness in the investigation process. The controversy escalated after Sarma claimed that Gogoi’s political stance seemed focused on Pakistan.
In response to Congress criticism, Sarma highlighted that the Assam Congress president’s references to Pakistan in attacks against him reveal the underlying political ideology. Gaurav Gogoi has refuted all accusations, labeling them politically driven attempts to divert attention from governance issues.
The Congress has accused the BJP of using state resources to target opposition figures ahead of crucial political contests. The formation of the SIT by the Assam government to probe these allegations has garnered mixed reactions from various political factions.
While the BJP argues that the investigation is crucial for national security and public accountability, the Congress questions the timing and motives behind it. Sarma emphasized that making the SIT report public will enable citizens to assess the facts independently, expressing confidence that truth will prevail upon its disclosure on February 8.
