Assam Congress President and Lok Sabha MP Gaurav Gogoi dismissed recent claims regarding the Special Investigation Team (SIT), alleging that they are a deliberate attempt to divert attention from the failures of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party-led state government. Gogoi emphasized his trust in constitutional and democratic institutions while questioning the timing and motives behind the focus on the SIT, suggesting it surfaces during government pressure over unmet promises and policy lapses.
Gogoi highlighted that the controversy is being orchestrated to shift attention from critical public issues affecting the people. He expressed willingness to cooperate with any lawful investigation within the framework of the law, emphasizing his faith in the Constitution and independent institutions. Gogoi also warned against the alleged misuse of investigative agencies for political gains, advocating for their autonomous and pressure-free functioning.
The Congress MP criticized the involvement of agencies in partisan conflicts, stating that it erodes public trust and democratic principles. He accused the ruling establishment of deflecting attention from pressing public concerns like unemployment, price hikes, governance deficiencies, and unmet development commitments. Gogoi urged the state government to prioritize addressing citizens’ daily challenges instead of engaging in what he termed as “distraction politics.”
Gogoi affirmed the Opposition’s commitment to raising issues related to public welfare, accountability, and transparency despite political pressures. He underscored the importance of respectful political discourse, stating that democracy thrives when institutions are honored and governance remains people-centric. Gogoi called on the Assam government to focus on development, employment opportunities, and social welfare, highlighting these as the real challenges facing the nation.
