Bangladesh has revealed a 15-member squad for the first Test against Pakistan, introducing uncapped batters Tanzid Tamim and Amite Hasan to the longest format. Najmul Hossain Shanto will lead the team, supported by Mehidy Hasan Miraz as the vice-captain, as Bangladesh gears up for the series starting on May 8 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur. The series, part of the 2025–27 ICC World Test Championship cycle, will feature two matches, with the second Test scheduled in Sylhet from May 16.
The squad announcement highlights the inclusion of Tanzid and Amite, emphasizing their potential in Test cricket. Tanzid, a left-handed opener with a strong limited-overs background, has been recognized for his consistent performances in first-class cricket, accumulating 1,792 runs in 25 matches at an average of 40. Chief selector Habibul Bashar expressed confidence in Tanzid’s abilities, citing his technique and natural talent as assets for the longer format.
Amite, a 23-year-old middle-order batsman, has earned his spot through exceptional domestic form, boasting an average of 49 across 82 innings since his first-class debut in 2019. Bashar praised Amite’s temperament and consistency, qualities deemed essential for Test cricket’s demands of patience and discipline. Both players are seen as strategic investments for Bangladesh’s Test batting lineup, with a focus on long-term contributions to the national team.
The selectors’ strategy also involves the return of key bowling resources to the squad. Fast bowlers Taskin Ahmed and Shoriful Islam, along with off-spinner Nayeem Hasan, have been recalled after periods out of contention, enhancing the team’s pace attack and bowling options. While maintaining a familiar core, the squad’s attention is now on Tanzid and Amite as they gear up for a potential Test debut, aiming to transition their domestic success into impactful performances at the international level and solidify their positions in Bangladesh’s evolving red-ball framework.
