Protests were held outside the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala condemning remarks by Bangladeshi leaders regarding India’s Northeast region. Demonstrators accused Bangladeshi leaders of making baseless anti-India comments and hostile activities. The Youth Tipra Federation president highlighted recent protests in Bangladesh where anti-India slogans were reportedly raised.
The Siliguri Corridor, connecting Northeast India with the rest of the country, has been a focal point. Bangladeshi leaders’ statements claiming parts of India’s Northeast have sparked tensions. The TMP has expressed concerns over false claims and anti-India activities, warning of potential historical disputes.
The NCP leader’s remarks about isolating India’s Northeast and sheltering separatist groups have further fueled tensions. Security concerns have also impacted Indian diplomatic operations in Bangladesh, leading to the suspension of visa services. The recent violent incident outside the Indian Assistant High Commission in Chittagong prompted the security review and service suspension.
