A total of 95,657 individuals from 36,279 households in Beijing were evacuated by Friday afternoon due to the threat of heavy rainfall. The city experienced a new round of heavy rain, with an average precipitation of 12 mm recorded from 8 am to 5 pm. The heaviest rainfall, totaling 164 mm, was observed in Pinggu’s suburban district.
All major reservoirs in Beijing are currently operating below their maximum water levels, as reported by the Xinhua news agency. The local meteorological authorities have issued forecasts for torrential rain and heavy downpours, expected to continue through Saturday. Residents are advised to limit outdoor activities and stay updated on weather alerts.
China has initiated flood-control and emergency response measures in anticipation of heavy rainfall from Typhoons Maysak and Bavi. Typhoon Maysak has already caused severe flooding in parts of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. Guangxi and Guangdong provinces have raised their flood alerts to the highest level due to the ongoing extreme rainstorms.
Super Typhoon Bavi is projected to impact China’s eastern coast and major river basins for about a week, posing a significant risk of flood-related disasters. The Ministry of Water Resources has emphasized the need to enhance flood prevention measures, strengthen monitoring systems, ensure reservoir safety, and guard against mountain torrents and river flooding.
