Bengaluru Police have apprehended a jilted lover who allegedly attacked a young woman in public after she ended their relationship. The incident, captured in a viral video, has sparked concerns about women’s safety in the city.
The suspect, identified as 29-year-old Naveen Kumar from Billamaranahalli in Yelahanka, reportedly met the victim on Instagram and they later became involved romantically. However, the woman recently blocked the man on social media and her phone.
According to reports, the accused confronted the woman near her PG hostel, leading to a confrontation when she rebuffed his advances. The video footage shows the man arriving in a car, assaulting the woman, attempting to snatch her bag, and then fleeing the scene.
Police investigations revealed that the accused and the victim initially connected on Instagram in 2024 and had disagreements, including financial disputes. The assault took place on Ullal Main Road in front of a PG hostel, with the victim alleging that the man physically attacked her and attempted to tear her clothes.
Authorities disclosed that the accused had been stalking and harassing the victim, using abusive language and resorting to physical violence. Following the victim’s complaint, the police invoked relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and arrested the suspect within 24 hours.
A team led by DCP (South West) Anita Haddannanavar, Assistant Commissioner of Police Basavaraj Teli, and Jnanabharathi Police Station Inspector M.S. Ravi carried out the arrest operation.
