Amid the ongoing conflict in West Asia and a global fuel shortage, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) lawmakers protested the lack of cooking gas in Telangana on Tuesday. The legislators demanded that both the Central and State governments take concrete actions to address the gas scarcity. BRS members gathered at Gun Park near the Assembly building, blaming authorities for the shortage.
Holding up placards featuring gas cylinders, the legislators, led by BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao, expressed worry about the rising gas prices. They marched towards the Assembly, demanding transparency from the governments on the gas supply issue. The lawmakers highlighted that while officials deny a shortage, they have stopped gas deliveries to eateries and small vendors.
Expressing concern over the impact on livelihoods, the legislators emphasized the severe disruption caused to the public, small vendors, and those reliant on the hotel industry. They urged immediate action from the State government to address the gas supply crisis and provide clarity to the public. The lawmakers also called for efforts to increase gas supplies through all possible means.
K.T. Rama Rao, speaking to the media, pointed out the hardships faced by people due to the LPG shortage linked to the ongoing conflict. He criticized the conflicting claims of the Central and State governments regarding the gas situation. Rao highlighted concerns about potential downsizing of gas cylinders and accused both levels of government of causing distress to the public. He urged the Centre to take effective steps to resolve the gas shortage and reassure the public.
