State-owned company Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) announced a significant increase in standalone net profit to Rs 382.49 crore in the third quarter of the fiscal year 2025-26, marking a more than threefold rise from the previous year’s Rs 124.77 crore. BHEL’s revenue from operations also rose by 16.4% year-on-year to Rs 8,473.10 crore, driven by strong performance in the power and industrial sectors, maintaining growth momentum from the previous quarter.
In the third quarter, BHEL’s revenue from the power segment reached Rs 6,322.36 crore, while the industry segment contributed Rs 2,150.74 crore to the company’s total revenue. Additionally, BHEL highlighted the potential impact on its future financials due to the implementation of new Labour Codes effective from November 21, 2025.
The Indian government introduced four Labour Codes aimed at simplifying and enhancing labor laws to ensure improved wages, safety, social security, and overall welfare for the workforce. These codes, including the Code on Wages, 2019, the Industrial Relations Code, 2020, the Code on Social Security, 2020, and the Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code, 2020, came into effect on November 21, 2025, consolidating 29 existing labor laws.
Under the Code on Social Security, 2020, all workers, including gig and platform workers, will now receive social security coverage, encompassing benefits like PF, ESIC, insurance, and other social security benefits. Previously, such coverage was limited. The Code on Wages, 2019, ensures that all workers are entitled to receive a statutory minimum wage, promoting financial security through timely wage payments, a significant improvement from the previous scenario where minimum wages were restricted to specific industries.
Moreover, the Labor codes mandate that employers must offer free annual health check-ups to all workers above 40 years of age, fostering a culture of preventive healthcare. This requirement represents a positive shift as previously, there was no legal obligation for employers to provide such health check-ups to their workers.
