Bhutan’s Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay expressed gratitude to PM Narendra Modi for India’s backing of Bhutan’s 13th Five-Year Plan and the Gelephu Mindfulness City Project. The two leaders, meeting at the India-AI Impact Summit in New Delhi, reviewed progress in various sectors like energy, connectivity, and development partnership. They emphasized advancing cooperation in energy, connectivity, and development, building on the success of PM Modi’s visit to Bhutan in November 2025.
PM Modi highlighted the excellent meeting with PM Tshering Tobgay, focusing on leveraging AI for global good and sustainability principles. Both leaders agreed to enhance cooperation in AI and digital technology, sharing experiences and jointly developing AI solutions. They reiterated their commitment to strengthening the India-Bhutan partnership based on trust, goodwill, and mutual respect.
India and Bhutan maintain a tradition of frequent high-level exchanges, exploring new avenues of collaboration while nurturing their longstanding ties in energy, infrastructure, and cultural exchange. PM Modi’s visit to Thimphu last November aimed at deepening the partnership and reinforcing India’s Neighbourhood First Policy. The visit also marked a milestone in the energy partnership with the inauguration of the Punatsangchhu-II hydropower project.
