Bihar’s Patna and Arwal districts have imposed restrictions on school operations amidst severe heatwave conditions. In Patna, academic activities for students up to Class 5 in all schools, including pre-schools, have been suspended until May 26, 2026. Classes for students in Classes 6 to 8 are allowed only until 10.30 a.m. as per the directive issued by the District Magistrate.
In Arwal district, classes up to Grade 5 in all schools and coaching institutes have been suspended, with academic activities for students in Classes 6 to 12 prohibited after 11 a.m. These restrictions will be in place from May 22 to May 25, 2026. The measures aim to protect children from health risks associated with the ongoing heatwave conditions.
Authorities in both districts have urged parents and guardians to take necessary precautions and avoid exposing children to direct sunlight during peak afternoon hours. School administrations have been instructed to adjust academic schedules in line with official directives to ensure the safety and well-being of students. The prevailing extreme temperatures have disrupted normal life in various parts of Bihar, with temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius in most areas.
