Discussions are ongoing regarding candidate selection and seat-sharing arrangements within the ruling alliance for the Bihar Legislative Council elections on June 18. Janata Dal (United) leaders recently met at the official residence of former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar in Patna to deliberate on potential candidates and organizational strategy.
Health Minister Nishant Kumar is a prominent contender for one of the JD(U)-allotted Legislative Council seats, as indicated by sources. Various party leaders are actively vying for nominations for the remaining seats. Among those meeting Nitish Kumar was Vidyanand Vikal, former Chairman of the Bihar State Food Commission, who expressed confidence in his candidature after discussions with the party’s senior leadership.
Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary clarified that JD(U) has yet to finalize the number of seats it will contest or the candidates’ names. Once decisions are made, the party plans to formally announce all details to the media. As the election date approaches, both the ruling NDA and opposition parties are expected to speed up internal consultations to finalize their candidates.
Building Construction Minister Leshi Singh’s visit to Nitish Kumar’s residence sparked discussions, though she later described it as a routine interaction with no special agenda. The upcoming days are crucial as parties gear up for the Bihar Legislative Council elections on June 18.
