BJP Claims Hindus in West Bengal Face Similar Vulnerability as in Bangladesh

Hindus in West Bengal are said to be facing a situation similar to that in neighboring Bangladesh, according to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). This claim comes following a social media post by renowned Bangladeshi writer and poet Taslima Nasreen, depicting burning houses and detailing an incident in Rauzan, Chittagong, Bangladesh. The post describes how a Muslim mob locked the doors of Hindu homes, poured petrol, and set them on fire.

Amit Malviya, the BJP’s Information Technology Cell chief, shared Nasreen’s post, highlighting the alleged atrocities faced by Hindus in both Bangladesh and West Bengal. While fundamentalist mobs reportedly target Hindus in Bangladesh, the BJP alleges that in West Bengal, Hindu protesters are met with brutality by the state police forces. Malviya criticized the police action against Hindu Jagran Manch protesters in Kolkata, who were demonstrating against the murder of a Hindu man in Bangladesh.

Malviya’s comparison drew attention to the contrasting treatment of Hindus in the two regions. He pointed out the violence against Hindus in Bangladesh and the alleged police brutality against Hindu protesters in West Bengal. The incident in Kolkata, where protesters were reportedly lathi-charged by the police, has sparked criticism against the state government, particularly Mamata Banerjee, who holds the positions of Chief Minister and Home Minister in West Bengal.

Taslima Nasreen, in her own social media post sharing the Chittagong video, questioned the ongoing atrocities faced by the Hindu population in Bangladesh and the response of the current caretaker government. She highlighted the burning of Hindu homes in Rauzan, Chittagong, by what she described as barbaric Muslims. Nasreen raised concerns about the lack of international attention to such incidents and called for accountability and compensation for the affected Hindus.
