The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) launched a scathing attack on Opposition parties after the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill, 2026, was defeated in the Lok Sabha. Prime Minister Narendra Modi accused the Congress and its allies of obstructing the ‘Nari Shakti Vandan’ Amendment, aimed at boosting women’s involvement in Indian politics. He clarified that the amendment sought to provide long-overdue representation to women without infringing on anyone’s rights.

PM Modi expressed disappointment at the Opposition’s actions, blaming parties like Congress, Trinamool Congress, Samajwadi Party, and DMK for thwarting the initiative. He criticized Congress for historically opposing women’s reservation and impeding such measures with misleading arguments and diversionary tactics. Union Minister Giriraj Singh condemned the Opposition, accusing them of depriving women of reservation and hindering progress.

Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak also criticized the Opposition for blocking the legislation, stating that voters would not forgive them. Pathak emphasized that the Opposition’s actions were a significant obstacle to achieving a developed India. BJP National Spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari alleged that Congress has consistently opposed reforms and development initiatives, branding them as anti-women and anti-development.
