Leader of the Opposition in the Karnataka Assembly, R. Ashoka, slammed Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for commenting on India’s sovereignty while acknowledging his reliance on the Congress high command for his position. Ashoka found it ironic that Siddaramaiah, who links his tenure to the party leadership, was discussing independence.
Ashoka pointed out that Siddaramaiah’s remarks on sovereignty seemed out of place, given his dependence on directives from the Congress leadership. He contrasted this with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s approach of engaging with global powers based on national interests.
Questioning the functioning of the Congress government in Karnataka, Ashoka suggested that decisions were dictated by the party high command rather than the elected Chief Minister. He criticized Siddaramaiah’s stance on national sovereignty, given his admission of needing approval for his own tenure.
Siddaramaiah had earlier criticized PM Modi, accusing the Central government of compromising India’s sovereignty in its dealings with the United States. He expressed concern over foreign governments influencing India’s economic decisions, highlighting the need for independent decision-making.
