Veteran BJP leader and Karnataka’s Leader of the Opposition, R. Ashoka, has called on the state government to promptly declare a farm loan waiver of up to Rs 50,000 for farmers impacted by droughts and floods. Ashoka emphasized the urgent need for relief as various regions in the state face agricultural distress due to adverse weather conditions. He criticized the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee’s resolution seeking Rs 10,000 crore from the Centre for drought relief, labeling it as irresponsible.
Ashoka stressed the necessity for immediate action rather than mere reviews, urging the government to swiftly implement the loan waiver and provide timely assistance to affected farmers. He accused the Congress government of neglecting its duties by blaming the Central government for administrative failures instead of effectively utilizing disaster relief resources. Ashoka highlighted the substantial financial aid Karnataka has received from the NDA government for disaster management over the years.
The BJP leader underscored the importance of accurate crop-loss assessments, efficient utilization of relief funds, and timely reporting to the Centre for securing National Disaster Response Fund assistance. He pointed out the proactive relief measures taken by past BJP governments during natural calamities, emphasizing the need for the current government to follow suit. Ashoka urged the state authorities to expedite relief efforts, conduct thorough crop-loss surveys, and ensure prompt disbursement of aid to affected farmers.
