To commemorate 75 years since the rebuilding of the historic Somnath Temple in Gujarat, BJP leaders conducted special prayers at the Kadumalleshwara Temple in Malleshwaram, Bengaluru. The leaders paid homage to Lord Shiva and chanted the ‘Om Namah Shivaya’ mantra 11 times during the event.
Among those present were BJP State President B.Y. Vijayendra, former Deputy Chief Minister Govind Karjol, former Deputy Chief Minister C.N. Ashwathnarayan, BJP State General Secretary P. Rajeev, and other party officials. Following the prayers, Govind Karjol highlighted the temple’s ancient origins, mentioning its destruction during the Mughal invasion and subsequent reconstruction in 1951.
Karjol recounted the historical context, noting that despite initial opposition from Jawaharlal Nehru, the temple was eventually rebuilt and dedicated to Hindu worshippers. He emphasized the significance of restoring the temple’s former grandeur and mentioned the ongoing tradition of devotees visiting the site for prayers.
In celebration of the reconstruction anniversary, BJP leaders and Hindus nationwide are participating in special worship at Shiva temples in various regions. B.Y. Vijayendra mentioned the ‘Somnath Swabhiman Parv’, where BJP members and patriots are engaging in similar prayer activities at Shiva temples across the country.
