As early trends in the West Bengal Assembly elections indicate the BJP taking the lead, Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar mentioned a potential major political shift in the state, foreseeing the establishment of ‘Ram Raj.’ Only a few rounds of counting have been completed, including postal ballots, but the initial results strongly point towards a possible BJP government formation. BJP leader Dilip Ghosh assured that all necessary arrangements for counting have been made, emphasizing the certainty of change based on the voting patterns.
Meanwhile, BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari is leading in the Bhabanipur constituency in south Kolkata and also in Nandigram, where he contests against Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Adhikari expressed confidence in BJP forming the government, citing early trends showing BJP ahead in more than 135 seats. He acknowledged the neck-to-neck fight in Bhabanipur, attributing his lead to Hindu voters and anti-incumbency sentiments favoring the BJP. Adhikari’s lead in Nandigram in the 2021 elections over Mamata Banerjee was also highlighted.
After the initial hours of counting votes in the West Bengal Assembly elections, the BJP held a slight lead over the Trinamool Congress, with 127 seats to 87. Congress candidates were yet to secure a lead, while the CPI(M)-led Left Front candidates led in one seat. The counting process is expected to involve a minimum of ten rounds and a maximum of 26, depending on the constituency’s voter count.
