The Rajya Sabha poll contest in Madhya Pradesh heated up as the BJP raised concerns with the Returning Officer regarding Congress candidate Meenakshi Natarajan’s nomination. BJP leader Kailash Vijayvargiya alleged that Natarajan failed to disclose information about a legal matter in Telangana, urging rejection of her candidature for violating Election Commission rules. The BJP pointed to a document from a Telangana court dated September 17, 2025, indicating a pending case involving Natarajan.
The objection lodged by the BJP is currently being reviewed by the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly. In response, State Congress president Jitu Patwari, former Chief Minister Digvijaya Singh, and other leaders met with the Returning Officer to counter the BJP’s claims. Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh Congress in-charge Harish Chaudhary dismissed the BJP’s objection as baseless, emphasizing that Natarajan had only received a show-cause notice, not faced criminal charges.
Tensions escalated outside the Returning Officer’s office as BJP supporters gathered, chanting patriotic slogans. A minor scuffle ensued between BJP and Congress workers before authorities intervened to restore order. Natarajan had submitted her nomination for one of the three Rajya Sabha seats from the state, with the BJP nominating Rajneesh Agarwal, Tarun Chugh, and Mahesh Kevat. The BJP, with 165 MLAs, is well-positioned to secure two seats, while the Congress, with 62 MLAs, faces a tight race to elect Natarajan.
