After Mamata Banerjee declared she would not resign as Chief Minister, the BJP emphasized that the election results mirror democratic will and urged her to acknowledge the loss. BJP’s Dinesh Sharma stated that since her term has ended and the public did not vote for her, resignation is unnecessary. He criticized her party’s actions, indicating that the defeat was a consequence of democracy.
BJP National Spokesperson R.P. Singh highlighted the high voter turnout in Bengal and advised Banerjee to accept the election outcome gracefully. Another BJP leader, Ram Kripal Yadav, emphasized the importance of respecting the public’s decision and suggested that Banerjee should step down due to the electoral defeat. Trinamool Congress faced a significant setback in the West Bengal elections after ruling the state for 15 years continuously.
Mamata Banerjee, in response to calls for her resignation, dismissed the idea, attributing the election results to alleged malpractices. She asserted that the defeat was not genuine and accused the opposition of vote manipulation. Banerjee also mentioned receiving support from various leaders within the INDIA bloc, including Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Arvind Kejriwal, Akhilesh Yadav, and Hemant Soren, following the election results.
