Bharatiya Janata Party workers were reportedly attacked by Trinamool Congress activists in Basanti, South 24 Parganas district during an election campaign. Police officers were injured while trying to control the situation. The BJP has accused the Trinamool Congress of organizing the attack.

The incident occurred as BJP leaders and workers were campaigning for their candidate, Bikash Sardar, in Basanti. Allegedly, Trinamool workers filmed the campaign, leading to a verbal dispute that turned physical. Tension escalated quickly in the area following the clash.

The attackers allegedly disrupted the BJP procession, damaging two motorcycles parked on the roadside. The BJP claims that the violence was supported by the administration and police. Police arrested eight individuals suspected of involvement in the incident and several officers were injured.

Upon learning of the attack, the BJP candidate arrived at the scene and confronted the police. He criticized the Trinamool for resorting to violence out of fear of losing, accusing the police of inaction. The Trinamool Congress has not officially responded to the incident as of the latest reports.

Police presence has been increased in the area to maintain order, with central forces conducting route marches to prevent further unrest.
