Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva expressed concerns over US President Donald Trump’s efforts to establish a new United Nations where he would hold sole ownership. Lula highlighted the shift from multilateralism to unilateralism globally, emphasizing the dominance of the “law of the strongest” in international affairs and the erosion of the UN Charter. He disclosed engaging in diplomatic discussions with various world leaders to reinforce multilateralism and prevent unilateral actions from prevailing.
Lula criticized Trump’s reliance on social media, particularly Twitter, to exert influence on a global scale. He questioned the feasibility of respecting individuals without direct interaction and underscored the importance of human-centric interactions over objectification. Lula emphasized the necessity of reintroducing humanism into social relationships during a housing program event in southern Brazil.
The Brazilian president advocated for reduced cellphone usage and highlighted his policy, initiated in 2024, to prohibit cellphones in elementary and middle school grades as a means to restore human values in society. While Lula has not publicly responded to Trump’s offer to participate in the “Board of Peace” overseeing Gaza Strip developments, he continues to emphasize the importance of human-centered diplomacy and multilateral cooperation.
