The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) extended warm greetings to Indians worldwide on India’s 77th Republic Day, emphasizing the need for a sincere evaluation of the nation’s progress in alignment with the Constitution’s core values. BSP’s national president, Mayawati, stressed the importance of moving beyond mere promises to reflect on the country’s political, social, and economic democracy. She highlighted the significance of assessing whether the government’s actions have truly uplifted people’s living standards as envisioned by the Constitution.
Mayawati urged for a critical analysis of the country’s development trajectory, particularly in combating poverty and unemployment among its vast population. She expressed concerns about the concentration of wealth among a small segment of society while a significant portion remains reliant on government aid. The BSP leader also lamented a perceived decline in India’s global ethical influence, questioning whether the nation still serves as a moral beacon for others or has shifted focus externally.
Addressing the issue of identifying illegal immigrants, Mayawati advocated for a streamlined approach that does not burden ordinary citizens with excessive documentation requirements. She called for a more efficient method that avoids imposing unnecessary bureaucratic hurdles on nearly 100 crore Indians. Additionally, Mayawati urged governments to tackle pressing issues like inflation, poverty, unemployment, illiteracy, casteism, and communalism, emphasizing the growing anxieties within marginalized sections of society.
On Republic Day, Mayawati called for a renewed commitment to constitutional values of public welfare and social justice, urging authorities to prioritize the well-being of all citizens over profit-driven motives. She highlighted the need for a shift towards a more honest and dedicated governance approach, reminiscent of the principles followed by BSP governments in Uttar Pradesh, encapsulated in the motto ‘Sarvjan Hitay, Sarvjan Sukhay.’
