Acting on the appeal of Punjab Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Kewal Singh Dhillon, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has directed a three-member review committee to examine the circumstances surrounding the removal of the Punjabi film “Satluj” from the OTT platform.
Dhillon welcomed the Centre’s decision, emphasizing that Punjab’s cinema and artists reflect the voice, history, and cultural identity of the people. He expressed confidence in the committee’s ability to conduct a thorough review, reaffirming his support for Punjab’s artists and residents on this matter.
While stressing the importance of upholding the rule of law, Dhillon highlighted the need for fair consideration of the concerns raised by Punjab’s film industry and the public. He assured continued engagement with all stakeholders to facilitate a swift and equitable resolution.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Punjab criticized the film’s removal, alleging a collaborative effort between the BJP and Congress to distort Punjab’s history. AAP spokesperson Baltej Pannu underscored the significance of films in preserving historical truths, especially for younger generations seeking insights into pivotal periods in Punjab’s past.
