On the final day of the State Legislature’s Monsoon Session, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis provided details on the investigation into the tragic death of former deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar in an aircraft crash. Currently, a dual inquiry is being conducted by the Crime Investigation Department (CID) and the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB).
Responding to queries about the absence of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the case, Chief Minister Fadnavis explained that the CBI is awaiting the final AAIB report before initiating its probe. He emphasized that the CID had thoroughly examined the financial records of the pilot, Sumit Kapoor, finding nothing suspicious in any of his bank accounts.
Chief Minister Fadnavis confirmed the successful retrieval of crucial flight data in the crash investigation. He mentioned that all necessary documents and data from the aircraft’s black box have been recovered. Despite the standard aviation crash investigations taking years, the state has requested an expedited process, with the final report expected before January.
Urging against baseless speculation, Chief Minister Fadnavis emphasized the importance of waiting for the official AAIB report before determining legal fault. He highlighted the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) in Karnataka, where the crash occurred, and stressed the need to avoid premature actions based on emotions.
