A city court in Vijayawada has sent suspended police officer S.S.V.V. Nagaraju to judicial custody for 14 days in connection with the alleged custodial death of Gade Sai Krishna, aged 25. Nagaraju, who served as the Circle Inspector at Krishnalanka police station where Sai Krishna died, was arrested by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) and presented before the court for remand.
The SIT, which detained Nagaraju on Tuesday, informed the court that Sai Krishna succumbed to injuries sustained while in custody. Additionally, the SIT revealed that crucial CCTV footage from the police station had been intentionally erased. Sai Krishna, who had pending cases and warrants, was taken into custody on May 6 and later went missing after being held illegally at the police station.
During the court proceedings, it was disclosed that attempts were made to conceal Sai Krishna’s death by relocating his body to an undisclosed place for disposal. The SIT reported that the suspended SHO was uncooperative and misleading the investigation by providing false details. The team, led by Inspector General M. Ravi Prakash, is investigating allegations of wrongful confinement, murder, and evidence tampering against Nagaraju.
