An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Asansol Durgapur Police Commissionerate, Supriya Mukherjee, lodged a complaint with West Bengal’s Women and Child Welfare Minister, Agnimitra Paul, accusing the Officer-in-Charge of Andal Police Station of aiding miscreants in diesel smuggling. Mukherjee claimed that when she intervened, the senior officer mistreated her and assigned her a less significant role. Consequently, she reported the incident, leading to a complaint against both the miscreants and the Officer-in-Charge.
In response to the BJP’s governance in Bengal, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari instructed the police to actively combat unlawful activities. ASI Mukherjee ventured to Andal in West Burdwan district to halt the illicit diesel trade. During investigations, the involvement of the Officer-in-Charge of Andal Police Station surfaced, with the miscreants being released under the officer’s orders. Mukherjee also mentioned a person named Pappu in connection with the case.
Mukherjee alleged that she faced harassment from the Officer-in-Charge after attempting to thwart the illegal oil trade, leading to her reassignment to a less critical role. Following this, she reported the incident to Agnimitra Paul and the Commissioner of Asansol Durgapur Police Commissionerate, officially registering a complaint.
In a separate development, Chief Minister Adhikari suspended three Indian Police Service (I.P.S.) officers, including the former Commissioner of Kolkata Police, Vineet Kumar Goyal, in connection with the rape and murder of a junior doctor at R.G. Kar Medical College & Hospital in Kolkata. The suspended officers are set to undergo a departmental inquiry, with a review of the involvement of former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in the case also planned.
