The Congress expressed disappointment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s actions at the G7 Summit in France. They accused him of failing to protect India’s economic interests and energy sovereignty. The party highlighted missed opportunities and criticized Modi for not standing up for India’s concerns during his interactions with US President Donald Trump.
The Congress Foreign Affairs Department, represented by Salman Khurshid, stated that Modi’s silence on certain issues was concerning. They pointed out that Modi did not assert India’s leadership role in the Global South as expected. Khurshid also raised questions about Modi’s failure to address India’s increasing geopolitical isolation and the challenges posed by Pakistan.
Khurshid further emphasized the need for Modi to prioritize India’s interests over personal relationships. He criticized the lack of favorable terms in trade deals and urged Modi to focus on safeguarding India’s interests regardless of international dynamics. The Congress called for a more assertive approach to protect India’s sovereignty and economic well-being.
