The Congress party has criticized the suspension of the sentence of former BJP leader Kuldeep Singh Sengar, who was convicted in the Unnao rape case. Congress MPs expressed concern over the decision, stating that such developments reflect the state of justice in BJP-ruled states. They emphasized the importance of upholding public confidence in the justice system and ensuring justice for the survivor.
Mahila Congress national President Alka Lamba also voiced criticism, stating that there is a growing lack of faith in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Congress spokesperson Surendra Rajput affirmed the party’s commitment to fighting for justice for the victim, emphasizing that the party will provide legal assistance and support to ensure justice is served.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a Special Leave Petition (SLP) in the Supreme Court against the Delhi High Court’s decision to suspend the life sentence and grant bail to Kuldeep Singh Sengar in the 2017 Unnao rape case. Family members of the survivor, along with women’s rights activists, protested outside the Delhi High Court against the suspension of Sengar’s sentence, expressing dissatisfaction with the court’s ruling.
