Congress MP and Assam Pradesh Congress president Gaurav Gogoi announced the initiation of a comprehensive organizational strengthening effort in Assam following the party’s poor performance in recent elections. The party aims to enhance its reach across communities and refine its political strategies in preparation for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. Despite facing a significant defeat in the state’s Assembly elections, the Congress is focusing on bolstering its grassroots presence and improving its political messaging.
Gogoi highlighted that a thorough evaluation post the Panchayat elections revealed areas where the party needed to enhance its organizational structure and communication strategies. While initial plans were in place to reinforce the party, many initiatives were yet to be completed. Utilizing the time before the next Lok Sabha elections, the Congress is actively working on implementing these plans and injecting new energy into the party. Discussions are ongoing at various levels within the organization, including district units, to devise a roadmap for the future.
The Congress is actively engaging with diverse sections of society, including tribal communities, Scheduled Castes, and other social groups, to better grasp their issues and aspirations. Feedback from these interactions will play a crucial role in shaping the party’s future programs and political agenda. Gogoi criticized the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), accusing it of prioritizing weakening opposition forces over addressing governance challenges. He alleged that the BJP lacked a coherent strategy for promoting social harmony and economic progress.
Gogoi raised concerns regarding the neglect of tribal community issues by the government, particularly related to land rights and development projects. He emphasized that many communities felt their interests were being overlooked. Despite electoral setbacks, Gogoi affirmed that the Congress would persist as a robust opposition force, advocating for the people’s concerns. The party is dedicated to rebuilding its organizational capacity and expanding its voter base across Assam in readiness for future electoral contests.
