The Congress party in Karnataka has emphasized the importance of being vigilant about the upcoming Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in the state. Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar highlighted that the SIR process would significantly impact the party’s future during a preparatory meeting for the “MGNREGA Bachao Sangram” protest.
Shivakumar urged Booth Level Agents (BLAs) to stay alert and safeguard voters’ rights to prevent any potential “vote theft” activities. He commended the efforts of district presidents, MLAs, and office-bearers in collecting 1.41 crore signatures as part of the campaign against vote theft, with recognition from Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and Mallikarjun Kharge.
Discussions are underway for a major program scheduled for February 13, with calls for beneficiary conventions at every taluk and panchayat to enhance party engagement at the grassroots level. Shivakumar also highlighted the significance of upcoming local body elections following recent court orders, emphasizing the government’s commitment to conducting elections at various levels.
The government’s efforts in implementing guarantee schemes and development projects were acknowledged, with Shivakumar noting the empowerment of workers through local-level nominations and appointments. He criticized the BJP-led Central government for its alleged impact on the MGNREGA scheme, contrasting it with the support provided during the Manmohan Singh-led government.
