Congress Member of Parliament Gaurav Gogoi stated that the party has commenced an internal review process post the disappointing performance in the recent Assam Assembly elections. He emphasized that the state leadership has taken full responsibility for the setback. Gogoi expressed deep disappointment over the 2026 Assembly polls outcome and informed the Congress high command about the same.
The party has started consultations with former MLAs, election candidates, and newly elected legislators to understand the reasons behind the poor showing and gather grassroots-level feedback. Gogoi mentioned that the party has initiated an internal review process and is engaging with various stakeholders to assess feedback and plan future steps. The recent meeting with district-level leaders and senior party functionaries marked the second phase of the review exercise.
Gogoi highlighted that discussions are ongoing within the Congress regarding organizational weaknesses, strategy failures, and leadership restructuring in light of the election results. There is a potential focus on strengthening booth-level structures and reconnecting with grassroots workers across districts to prepare for future political battles in the state.
