Top Central and state Congress leaders gathered at the party’s Kerala headquarters to celebrate the 63rd birthday of party General Secretary, Organisation, K.C. Venugopal. The event, attended by a significant number of leaders, highlighted Venugopal’s influence within the party and commemorated his five decades in public service. Notable figures present included Madhusudan Mistry, Sunny Joseph, V.D. Satheesan, Ramesh Chennithala, Deepa Dasmunshi, and other senior members, giving the occasion a political significance.
Venugopal’s political journey began with the Congress student movement, progressing through leadership roles in the Kerala Students Union and the Indian Youth Congress at the state level. His electoral success started with his entry into the Kerala Assembly from Alappuzha in 1996, followed by ministerial positions in the Oommen Chandy government. Transitioning to national politics, he won the Alappuzha Lok Sabha seat in 2009 and served as a Minister of State in the UPA government from 2011 to 2014.
Despite sitting out the 2019 general election, Venugopal’s standing within the party grew stronger. His election to the Rajya Sabha from Rajasthan in 2020 and subsequent appointment as General Secretary overseeing organization underscored his pivotal role in the Congress’s resurgence efforts. Returning to Parliament in 2024 by winning the Alappuzha seat for the third time completed his political trajectory.
The birthday celebration in Thiruvananthapuram, held without Venugopal’s presence, emphasized his enduring influence beyond his physical attendance, symbolizing his significant impact on the party’s current landscape.
