Congress leaders have suggested the possibility of the Trinamool Congress, led by Mamata Banerjee, merging with their party. Highlighting Banerjee’s past association with the Congress, they welcomed those supporting Rahul Gandhi as the future Prime Minister to join. The invitation extends beyond the Trinamool to any political leader in the country.
V. Gurunadham, Congress’s Andhra Pradesh unit Vice President, emphasized Banerjee’s roots in the Congress and her subsequent divergence to form the Trinamool. He cited the need for change and mentioned Banerjee’s recent interactions with top Congress leaders. Congress MP Sukhdeo Bhagat echoed this sentiment, inviting those aligned with Gandhian ideology to join the movement.
Speculation about a potential merger intensified after Banerjee’s meetings with Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. However, Ritabrata Banerjee, the Trinamool Congress Legislative Party leader, denied any likelihood of a reunion with the Congress.
