Escalating the political tensions in Assam, Congress MP and state party president Gaurav Gogoi criticized Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, accusing him of losing dignity in public life. Gogoi challenged Sarma to engage in a direct political contest instead of resorting to baseless personal attacks.
According to Gogoi, Chief Minister Sarma has shown a lack of respect and should face the Congress directly if he dares. Gogoi emphasized that the Congress is ready to counter the BJP politically and democratically, highlighting the need for constructive political discourse.
Gogoi further alleged that the BJP-led government in Assam is diverting attention from critical issues like unemployment and price rise by engaging in political theatrics. He criticized Sarma for focusing on personal attacks rather than addressing the state’s governance failures.
The Congress leader accused the ruling dispensation of using state machinery to intimidate political opponents, reaffirming the party’s commitment to raising public interest issues both within and outside the Assembly. The political tensions between the BJP and Congress in Assam have heightened recently over governance, eviction drives, and mutual allegations.
