Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has appointed eight additional General Secretaries and 25 Secretaries for the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections. Among the appointees are two women leaders, G. Thiampunia as an additional General Secretary and Cosmic Jajo as a Secretary of the state unit.
The appointments follow discussions held by Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee President Okram Ibobi Singh and Congress Legislature Party leader Keisham Meghachandra Singh in New Delhi regarding the party’s preparations for the forthcoming elections. Detailed talks on the party’s strategy and organizational readiness for the early 2027 Assembly elections were conducted during the meeting.
AICC General Secretary K.C. Venugopal highlighted the need to remove the BJP from Manipur, citing the state’s civil unrest since 2023. He emphasized the people’s desire to restore peace by electing Congress MPs in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The focus remains on ousting what he termed the “divisive and dangerous BJP” to bring back a government that promotes unity and progress.
Congress Legislature Party leader Keisham Meghachandra Singh criticized the BJP-led government for its inaction in addressing Manipur’s challenges. He expressed concerns over rising unemployment, shrinking opportunities, and a lack of government responsiveness to the people’s needs. Singh called for accountability, decisive action, and a renewed focus on restoring peace and security in Manipur.
