The Congress unveiled a fresh list of candidates for the upcoming Assam Assembly elections, covering key constituencies and reserving some seats for its ally, Raijor Dal. Candidates have been finalized for various constituencies in Upper Assam, North Bank, and Barak Valley regions, as per the party’s Central Election Committee. Notable names include Bidisha Neog for Jalukbari, Rohit Pariga for Tangla, and Jayanta Borah for Biswanath seats.
The party also nominated Joy Prakash Das for the Nowboicha (SC) seat and Gyandip Mohan for Mahmora. Pran Kurmi will represent Titabor, while Rahul Roy is set to contest from Hailakandi in Barak Valley. Additionally, the Congress has allocated several constituencies to its ally Raijor Dal, such as Manas, Dalgaon, Dhing, Kaliabor, Tezpur, Sissibargaon, Margherita, Digboi, Sibsagar, Mariani, and Bokakhat, in line with the opposition alliance strategy.
This move aims to consolidate anti-BJP votes in preparation for the crucial Assembly polls in Assam. The Congress is strategically balancing between fielding strong local candidates and accommodating allies to prevent vote splitting. As the party gears up to challenge the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party, the focus remains on alliances and candidate selection to secure favorable outcomes.
