Consul General of India in Shanghai, Pratik Mathur, kicked off two curtain raiser events in Shanghai to mark the upcoming 12th International Yoga Day. The first event was a special Yoga camp organized for Bloodline, East Asia’s largest volunteer-driven blood donation program. Mathur highlighted the significance of Yoga and AYUSH-based wellness practices in promoting preventive healthcare and holistic well-being.
Pratik Mathur also opened the Annual East China Indian Community Badminton Competition and thanked the Indian community for their active involvement in spreading awareness about Yoga in the region. He emphasized the growing popularity of Yoga in Eastern China, attracting participants from diverse backgrounds. Nearly 500 individuals attended these events, showcasing the shared cultural heritage of Yoga that transcends boundaries for global well-being.
The events were part of the Consulate’s efforts leading up to the International Yoga Day 2026 celebrations on June 21. This year’s theme, “Yoga for Healthy Ageing,” underscores the practice’s benefits for people of all ages. Yoga, with its focus on movement, breathing exercises, and mindfulness, supports physical health, mental well-being, and stress management. It aligns with the WHO Decade of Healthy Ageing goals, promoting independence, quality of life, and person-centered health approaches.
