Continued Rainfall Forecast for Parts of Tamil Nadu Before State Assembly Election

Days before the upcoming state Assembly election on April 23, the Regional Meteorological Centre in Chennai has predicted ongoing rainfall activity in various areas of Tamil Nadu for the next four days. This weather pattern is driven by an atmospheric trough that extends from Telangana to the Comorin region. The weather office reports the presence of a trough at an altitude of around 1.5 km above sea level, spanning from Telangana through Rayalaseema and interior Tamil Nadu to the southern tip of the peninsula.

Under the influence of this system, certain districts, particularly those along the Western Ghats and the southern coastal regions, are likely to experience light rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds. The forecast suggests that on Monday and Tuesday, isolated places in Western Ghat districts, coastal areas of south Tamil Nadu, delta regions, and Karaikal may witness wind speeds reaching 30 to 40 kmph.

While most parts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry are expected to have predominantly dry weather conditions, the Meteorological Department anticipates similar weather patterns on April 22 and 23. During this period, one or two places in the Western Ghats, southern coastal districts, delta regions, and Karaikal are likely to receive light to moderate rainfall along with thunderstorms and gusty winds of similar intensity.

From April 24 to 26, isolated locations in the Western Ghats, southern Tamil Nadu, delta districts, and Karaikal may continue to experience light to moderate rainfall, indicating a prolonged period of unsettled weather in these regions. Despite the rainfall activity, maximum temperatures in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal are not expected to undergo significant changes until April 24, although some areas may see a slight rise in temperatures. Coastal regions are projected to have near-normal maximum temperatures during this timeframe.

For Chennai, the forecast suggests partly cloudy skies on Monday and Tuesday, with maximum temperatures ranging between 37 to 38 degrees Celsius and minimum temperatures around 28 degrees Celsius. High humidity levels, coupled with elevated temperatures, may lead to discomfort among residents. Authorities advise residents, especially in vulnerable areas, to exercise caution during thunderstorms and gusty wind conditions.
