A court in Ajmer has directed the registration of a case against Bharatiya Janata Party City President Ramesh Soni for allegedly reposting an objectionable social media post targeting the Delhi Chief Minister. The order came from the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (No. 2), instructing the Ganj Police Station to file the case. The complaint, filed by Shreyans Surana, accused Soni of amplifying the circulation of the post by sharing it from his own Facebook account.
Advocate Vaibhav Jain, representing the complainant, highlighted that the objectionable content was originally posted from Piyush Surana’s Facebook account. Despite police action against Piyush Surana, no measures were reportedly taken against Ramesh Soni for reposting the content. The complainant alleged that the police’s inaction was influenced by Soni’s position, prompting the court to intervene and direct the registration of a First Information Report under relevant legal provisions.
The complainant’s counsel argued that reposting obscene material on social media constitutes an offense under the Information Technology Act. Citing a Supreme Court judgment, it was emphasized that the registration of a First Information Report is mandatory for cognizable offenses. The magistrate, after reviewing the complaint and arguments, instructed the Ganj Police Station to initiate a case against Ramesh Soni, the BJP City President.
